Vintage manga series Astro Boy (known as The Mighty Atom in Japan) written and illustrated by Osamu Tezuka and published by Kobunsha from 1952 - 1968. Widely regarded as the godfather of modern manga, Osamu Tezuka pioneered the iconic look and style we associate with ‘manga’ and ‘anime’ today, most notably with the worldwide phenomenon that is Astro Boy. The story is set in 2001 where a grieving roboticist named Dr. Tenma creates a robot named Astro Boy (Atom in Japan) in the image of his late son. As time passes, Dr. Tenma became angry at the robot’s unaging face, and he eventually abandons Astro. Astro later gets adopted by Dr. Ochanomizu and swears to dedicate his life to fighting evil, which leads him down a path of adventures against mad scientists, alien invaders, and even other robots.
This is Vol. 10, No. 8, published in 1955.
